Congressman Nick Begich Applauds President Trump’s Announcement of Potential Alaska-Japan Energy Partnership
WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 7, 2025 – Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) issued a strong statement of support following President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of ongoing discussions between the United States and Japan regarding a potential joint venture to develop Alaska’s vast oil and gas resources. The proposed venture, which would include the construction of an LNG 800-mile pipeline and related infrastructure, represents a major step forward in unlocking the immense natural gas reserves of Alaska’s North Slope.
Congressman Begich emphasized the significance of this opportunity for Alaska’s economy and the nation’s energy security, stating:
"My team and I have been working with the Trump Administration and industry partners, along with many others in the delegation and the Governor’s office to ensure that Alaska’s energy and mineral resources are fully developed. Today’s announcement with Japan underscores the commitment that the Trump Administration, in conjunction with America First colleagues in Congress, have towards achieving energy dominance in our Nation again. We look forward to continuing to support transformational projects for the benefit of Alaskans and our Nation as a whole. Alaska is open for business!"
The Alaska-Japan partnership would not only create jobs and expand economic opportunities for Alaskans but also reaffirm the state’s role as a key player in America’s energy strategy. By tapping into previously stranded resources and facilitating LNG exports, this initiative would help drive long-term investment, lower energy costs, and fortify national security through energy independence.
President Trump signed the Alaska-specific executive order, Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential on his first day in office which declared the Alaska LNG Project a top priority of the Trump Administration.
