Congressman Nick Begich Celebrates the Official Start of the 2025 Iditarod
WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 3, 2025 – Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) released the following statement celebrating the start of the 2025 Iditarod:
“Today marks the official start of the “Last Great Race on Earth”, the Iditarod. For Alaskans, the Iditarod is more than a race—it is often considered the “pulse of Alaska”. It is a powerful symbol of our state’s rich culture and enduring spirit.
This year’s extended course is a testament to the challenges that come with racing through Alaska’s unforgiving wilderness. But just as Alaskans always have, these competitors will adapt and persevere, pushing forward with the same strength and tenacity that has defined this event for over 50 years.
As our state gathers to cheer on these remarkable athletes—both human and canine—we are reminded of the traditions that bring us together as Alaskans. The Iditarod is a celebration of Alaska, our people, and the frontier spirit that continues to inspire both Alaskans and people from around the world.
Good luck to all the mushers and stay safe—Alaska is cheering you on to Nome!”
