ICYMI: Congressman Nick Begich Joins House Republicans to Reinforce Maximum Pressure on Iran
WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 2, 2025 – Yesterday, Congressman Nick Begich (R-AK) joined fellow House Republicans for a press conference announcing a maximum pressure initiative to hold Iran fully accountable for their continued state-lead sponsoring of regional and global terrorism. The initiative demonstrates strong support for President Donald J. Trump’s National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM-2) which restores a maximum pressure campaign against the Iranian regime.
The event highlighted a unified Republican front to confront Iran’s destabilizing behavior — including its nuclear ambitions, its support for terrorist proxies like the Houthis, and its threats to American forces and global trade.
As part of this effort, Congressman Begich has co-sponsored the No Iranian Energy Act, legislation that strengthens existing sanctions by targeting Iran’s growing natural gas industry. The bill prohibits the importation of Iranian natural gas by the Government of Iraq and expands sanctions to ensure Iran cannot benefit from gas exports that help fund its nuclear program and terror networks.
“Iran’s natural gas sector has become a dangerous revenue source for its regime and its proxies,” said Congressman Begich. “The No Iranian Energy Act is a critical step in cutting off these funds and advancing the maximum pressure strategy needed to keep America and our allies safe.”
Congressman Begich stands with colleagues in the Congress who are committed to restoring American deterrence and holding the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran accountable for their continued efforts to destabilize, disrupt, and destroy peaceful nations through terrorism.
